  • Daniella Vdengwu, a Grade 2 student at Sacred Heart School plays on some of the new playground equipment over the lunch hour on Thursday. The school is celebrating its 70th anniversary by holding a bbq Thursday evening. Its also a chance to thank the many donars, including IDL Projects, Pittman Ashphalt and Novatone, that contributed to the over $200,000 refurbishment of the playground, basketball courts, garden area and field at the school.   • Local firefighters with Prince George Fire/Rescue held their annual boot campaign to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy Canada on September 6th and 7th. The local Rona matched the funds raised by the firefightes on the Saturday they were set-up at Rona. Wednesday Rona showed their generous support of the firefighter fund raising efforts and donated a cheque for $1,000 to MD Canada. An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds 1000 origami cranes will be granted one wish. The Raven is an important figure within First Nations culture, symbolizing change and transformation. UNBC's First Nations Centre is asking you to make an origami raven as part of our goal to make 1000 Ravens in one year to symbolize a University-wide wish for Reconciliation. The Prince George Cougars Hockey Club, in partnership with the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation and the Northern Health Authority, are excited to announce the regionalization of the Spirit of Healthy Kids (SOHK) School Program.
The SOHK School Program, which is sponsored by the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, is entering its fifth year. Since its inception over 18,000 students in Prince George have been exposed to the program.
 “The Cougars are proud to be closely aligned with Northern Health & the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation,” said Cougars’ Vice President, Business Andy Beesley.  “Through this partnership, our players have provided positive, effective, and measurable role modelling for thousands of local elementary school children.”
This year the Cougars, the Northern Health Authority, and the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation are expanding the SOHK School Program to extend beyond Prince George and offer it to over 220 schools, which will reach over 33,000 students in the Northern Health region.
“Northern Health recognizes the value of the SOHK partnership, and we wanted to help take the program to the next stage,” stated Northern Health Community Funding Programs Coordinator Andrew Steele. “By expanding to a regional program, we seek to share the benefits of healthy messaging and positive role models with children throughout Northern BC.”

Over the weekend, contracted crews working for the City of Prince George repaved a section of road from the entrance to City Hall to the intersection with 6th Avenue and George Street, which has been closed to traffic since late last year.
